Two FormUp 350 industrial machines will be installed on the site to accelerate the integration of metal 3D printing into production processes.

Bourget, France– Sirius Space Services, an emerging player in the French New Space, takes a new step in its industrial rise with the acquisition of S.E.R.M, a historic precision machining site located at Coudray-Montceaux (Essonne, 91).

This acquisition is accompanied by a strategic partnership with the Fives group via its subsidiary AddUp, specialist in metal additive manufacturing.

A historic industrial site serving the space of tomorrow

Founded in 1962, S.E.R.M is a recognized player in complex machining for the industry. It now becomes S.E.R.M by Sirius. The site will play a central role in the production of the SIRIUS family of launchers, particularly for the manufacture of critical components of STAR 1 engines (combustion chambers, injector plates, turbo pumps), designed by metal additive manufacturing, as well as multiple pieces of the launcher.

The site brings together 30 highly qualified employees, experts in small and medium series, as well as in the post-processing of parts from metal additive manufacturing. It is equipped with 17 quality machine tools, and a know-how deeply rooted in the industrial fabric of the Île-de-France region.

In parallel with the activities for Sirius, the site will continue to meet the needs of its historical clients in the Space, Automotive, Aeronautics, Medical and Defense sectors, with references such as SAFRAN, Alpine, Renault F1, Peugeot-Citroën Sport or Mecachrome.

“By integrating the S.E.R.M, we consolidate our capacity to produce in France with a high level of technological requirement. This site permanently anchors Sirius in the reindustrialization of space.” – Antoine FOURCADE, CEO of Sirius Space Services

AddUp, strategic technology partner

To support this industrial rise, Sirius relies on AddUp, a leading French player in metal additive manufacturing and a subsidiary of the Fives group, an international leader in industrial engineering. Two FormUp 350 industrial machines will be installed on the site to accelerate the integration of metal 3D printing into production processes.

AddUp dedicates a third of its activity to the Aeronautics, Space and Defense (ASD) sector, with key collaborations with Dassault, Thales or the DGA. The company is also developing the MASSIF project, dedicated to the development of a new machine for the production of large-sized parts, as part of the France 2030 program.

This technological recognition also resulted in emblematic achievements: an AddUp machine was sent aboard the International Space Station (ISS) as part of a project conducted with Airbus DS, demonstrating the robustness and precision of its equipment in extreme conditions.

“This partnership with Sirius illustrates our ability to support the actors of the New Space in their rise to industrial power, thanks to our technological know-how and our co-design approach” – Julien Marcilly, President of AddUp

An industrial, sovereign and collective ambition

With this takeover and partnership, Sirius Space Services affirms its commitment to an agile, competitive and sovereign French space sector.

This industrial project allows Sirius to:

  • sustain skilled jobs in Île-de-France, Preserve strategic industrial know-how
