Traditionally, Acetabular hip cups are manufactured by casting and forging using EBM technology. This method has a long turnaround time from order to final product and less precision with a higher surface roughness. Laser Powder Bed Fusion technology provides a closer net shape part, requires no support structures, and requires significantly less post processing compared to the traditional method. AddUp’s PBF technology offers the freedom to design implants to be geometrically optimized using lattice structures and overhangs, all with minimal support structures.
