AddUp is pleased to announce that our FormUp 350 metal 3D printing system has received the “Solar Impulse Efficient Solution” label, an internationally recognized certification for technologies that deliver both environmental and economic benefits.

Granted by the Solar Impulse Foundation, this label identifies proven solutions that enable industries to reduce their environmental footprint without sacrificing profitability. Created by explorers and clean technology advocates Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg, the Foundation has vetted over 1,500 solutions worldwide since it’s launch in 2003 to support industrial and governmental decision-makers in accelerating the transition to clean, efficient technologies.

“We are proud that our machine benefits from the Solar Impulse Efficient Solution label,” says Julien Marcilly, CEO of AddUp. “This recognition is based on the fact that our customers use the FormUp 350 to reduce the environmental impact of their projects, and also on the intrinsic qualities of this machine.”

The FormUp 350 uses Laser Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF) technology to produce lightweight, high-performance metal parts with fewer raw materials and an optimized supply chain.

Key distinguishing features recognized by the Solar Impulse Foundation include the interchangeable powder spreading system, which offers greater flexibility in part design and complexity, and the open material platform, giving users the freedom to choose from a wide range of metal powders. This enables responsible, cost-effective, and locally sourced material decisions. These advantages make the FormUp 350 a valuable tool for industries aiming to streamline their supply chains and lower their environmental impact.

To earn the Solar Impulse Efficient Solution label, the FormUp 350 underwent a rigorous, independent assessment conducted by external experts. The machine was evaluated in three categories: the technical relevance of the solution, its ability to offer a positive impact on the environment, and its economic advantage compared to conventional technologies. The FormUp 350 received favorable reviews in all areas, becoming the only metal 3D printing system currently certified by the Solar Impulse Foundation.

The Foundation’s official website now features the FormUp 350 alongside a case study from Michelin, which uses the machine to manufacture parts for tire molds without conventional tooling. This approach reduces resource consumption, shortens production cycles, and improves supply chain efficiency.

As a subsidiary of the Fives Group, AddUp benefits from a broader industrial commitment to sustainability. Fives already holds four other Solar Impulse labels for solutions in glass, aluminum, steel, and galvanized steel production.
